Pluck & Rail:
Pluck & Rail are the sonic equivalent of a street brawl between the Avett, Punch and Felice Brothers refereed by Gillian Welch and Pink Floyd. Their live performances blister with a passion and energy not often seen in acoustic music. Drawing from the deep well of American music, Pluck & Rail blend together gritty songwriting, tight vocal melodies and soaring cello runs to craft their unique sound. George bought his first guitar at age 17 and moved to Austin, TX, where he soaked up the sounds of the south and was forever changed. After hearing hearing Eddie Van Halen at the age of 15, the classically trained cellist Sussman starting spinning Bach into the blues and Beethoven into Zappa.
“...bittersweet...” — New York Times
“...evocative of the Felice Brothers...” — Westchester Magazine
“...a fresh take evoking aspects of T Bone Burnett.” — Progression Magazine
“...fun, irreverent, soulful and gritty!” — EMBARK | Peekskill
“…folk-punk crooners…” - Garcia’s at the Capitol
Since forming, Pluck & Rail have been featured performers at the The Long Island Bluegrass Festival, the Rock n’ Roots Music Festival, The Great Eastern Music Festival, The Ridgefield Playhouse, Garcia’s at the Capitol Daryl’s House, The Towne Crier, The Hurdy Gurdy Folk Music Club and NJ Prog House and opened for the Steep Canyon Rangers, Sarah Shook and Red Molly.
Pluck & Rail’s debut record, TRIGGER, is an eclectic song series telling tales of misfits and mishaps that would make Tom Waits smile. A rare acoustic album that navigates the waters of folk, blues, country and sometimes punk, George and Andy harmonize and sing of the darker side of life: body snatching, addiction, divorce, hospitals and graveyards. Pluck & Rail believe that in our bumps and bruises we find our true beauty. The sophomore effort, Killing Time, will be released in the Fall of 2021.
“with distinct echoes of The Decemberists’ early work” “wistful, mid-paced ballads, masterfully interpreted by Gierer’s deep, slightly smoky voice” - Raffaella Berry, Fire of Unknown Origin
“full of catchy melodies…that could easily find mass appeal” “offer delicate melodies that float within gorgeous acoustic arrangements” “have really nailed what 'American roots music' is all about” - Peter Pardo, Sea of Tranquility
“deceptively hair-raising ruminations on everyman struggle” - John Collinge, Progression Magazine

We are forever grateful for their dedication. In honor of the Grateful Dead's November run at The Cap in 1970, we welcome you to learn more about Ken and Judy Lee. -
