Grateful BRO
Grateful-BRO at Garcia’s, by Don Grossinger (www.dongrossinger.com)...
I have had the honor to talk with Marc Jacoby (guitar), Cliff Mays (guitar) and Jim Weingast (drums) about what the Grateful-Blue Roadhouse Orchestra brings to the music of the Grateful Dead. Although they will be playing exclusively Grateful Dead tunes, they do not want to be seen exclusively as a “cover band”. Marc commented: “I have always played Grateful Dead music, as long as I have been playing guitar. I just like the sound of the music”. “We all like to share the music”. Cliff adds:” The Grateful Dead songbook was very unusual. The songs had a richness not found in other bands”. “We all had different eras in which we were introduced to the band”. The band is close in “feel” to the Grateful Dead without being note for note copies. There is no “Jerry” or “Bobby” in the group. It just comes out Grateful Dead. Jim added: “It’s all about listening and responding to one another as opposed to playing a preconceived notion of what the Dead were playing”. It is as it should be then, because the Dead never played note for note copies of their songs night to night. This is a band that captures the spirit of the Grateful Dead. They investigate and explore the chemistry of the Dead. Garcia’s Bar is decorated as an homage to Jerry Garcia. The vibe is great. The scene is fun. Come down to Garcia’s and experience it for yourself! Doors open at 7PM. Location: 149 Westchester Avenue / Port Chester, NY
