For internationally acclaimed singer, songwriter and guitarist, Clare Maloney, the path to the rock and roll stage has been far from conventional. The Tarrytown, New York native grew up loving punk rock and taught herself guitar at age 12, but set aside her rock and roll dreams in her teens and twenties to build a successful career as an opera singer. Her work as a classical musician took her all over the world with performances in Italy, France, Belgium, and onto many of the most celebrated stages in the United States including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Town Hall, Symphony Space, 92nd Y, and National Sawdust. Despite her success on the opera stage, Clare never shook her calling for the more contemporary genres that first fueled her musical journey. In 2015, Clare began to expand her musical palette and within a few short years, she navigated the significant change from an established opera career to a full-time pop and rock vocalist, logging over 200 gigs a year and honing her craft in every type of venue imaginable. Her powerful voice and electric stage presence solidified her place as an in-demand rock and roll vocalist, and musicians and music fans alike took notice as she appeared alongside members of The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Starship, The Allman Brothers, Hall & Oates, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Hot Tuna, The Tubes and The New Riders of the Purple Sage. In 2018, she dusted off her old guitar and began working past the long period of writer’s block that had followed her for nearly a decade. Her persistence rewarded her and the songs began to flow. So did an increasing interest from fans and colleagues for her original music – a stylistic mix of old school rock and roll, Americana and blue-eyed soul made fresh by her feel and signature voice. When the global pandemic occurred in 2020, Clare dove headfirst into uncharted waters to produce a weekly livestream series that garnered over 100,000 views and an enthusiastic fan base around the world. Since the music industry reopened in 2021, she has wasted no time returning to the stage. Highlights include a show-stopping appearance with Oteil Burbridge from Dead & Company, a special mention in Martha Stewart’s blog following her performance at Caramoor Center for the Arts, playing over a dozen shows for the reopening of the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY, and assembling her band, “Clare Maloney & The Great Adventure”. The band, featuring Nate DeBrine, Nathan Graham (Midnight North, Phil Lesh), and Larry Cook (Tony Trischka), played its first show to a sold-out crowd at The Bitter End in New York City in June 2021 with more dates scheduled for this summer and fall. In addition to her full 2021 schedule, Clare has spent much of her time writing songs and developing the material that will make up her debut album, with plans to head into the studio later this year.
