reCAP :: The Midnight Ramble Band :: 2014.01.24

The Cap delighted us again with surprises! The rabid fan base in attendance bore witness to The Midnight Ramble Band as they passionately performed an array of classic tunes on Friday, January 25. The line-up of Larry Campbell, Byron Isaacs, Amy Helm, Erik Lawrence, Teresa Williams, Jim Weider, Steven Bernstein, Jay Collins, and Justin Guip was pleasantly augmented by a surprise sit-in by Little Feat’s Bill Payne, who admirably filled in on keys for Brian Mitchell to share a bevy of sing-a-long mayhem. reCAP :: Pixies :: 2014.01.19

Pixies, were on fire from head to boot, their new bassist, Paz Lenchatin, laying down cover, while Francis and Santiago crumpled up the auditorium and then unruffled it and folded it into an airplane and flew it into the side of a mountain, as Lovering looked on from the tarmac, directing traffic. reCAP :: Joe Russo’s Almost Dead :: 2013.12.27

There may be nothing like a Grateful Dead convert, but an exemplary tribute band experience may still trump any other option. Fittingly, the final weekend of music at The Capitol Theatre, the historic venue that the Grateful Dead played 18 times in 1970-71 alone and that includes the bar Garcia’s, would commence with the definitive Grateful Dead tribute experience. In only their 2nd performance ever, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead impressed an almost sold-out show of joyous revelers who were provided an exquisite opportunity to dance and sing along again with their favorite songs for a full two sets of improvisational music covering the greatest jamband in musical history. reCAP :: Tegan and Sara :: 2013.12.14

For over a decade and a span of six albums, Canadian darlings Tegan and Sara Quin built a loyal fan base with true indie spirit, infectious music matched with brutally honest lyrics, and their respective lovably-biting personalities. This year, however, the wonder twins went in a totally different direction, putting out Heartthrob, an unapologetic pop record, whose first single — the 80s-centric “Closer” — propelled them into the mainstream. reCAP :: Turn Back The Cap: 1980s :: 2013.12.13

How fitting it was that The Capitol Theatre chose Friday the 13th as the night to unleash its “Turn Back the Cap: 1980s” show. All night long, music from that beloved Jason Voorhees decade flowed like teen blood at Camp Crystal Lake courtesy of killer cover band Jessie’s Girl, who rocked our socks (and proverbial leg warmers) off the minute they took the stage in their traditional ‘80s spandex, along with 80s icons Martin Fry, Mike Score, Tiffany, and Rob Base. The Cap has done it again and this time there was even a super hero sighting. The earth moved, the walls boomed, and bodies grooved on a cold November night at The Capitol Theatre. The incredible Bonnie Raitt finally made her way back to Port Chester, accompanied by her kickass band and her legendary bottleneck electric guitar style.
