Garcia’s “Playing in the Band” is a chance to get up close and personal with our performers like never before. Come for the conversation, stay for the education, and leave with a message. We’ll see you at the show! Goose plays Garcia's with Lil' Larry Jr. & The Squall on Friday, February 19!

1. You guys attended Berklee College of Music in Boston together. Cap alumni like Melissa Etheridge, Donald Fagan, Branford Marsalis, Pat Metheny, Susan Tedeschi, Diana Krall all attended Berklee. What it is about the school and its atmosphere that cultivates and inspires musicians to grow?

As that list certainly demonstrates, I would say it’s the sheer caliber and volume of talent swarming there. It can definitely be a bit of a shock going from being a big fish in your little pond to all of a sudden being thrown into an ocean of whales; I know I had my share of ego shattering moments.. In retrospect though, those moments were inevitably the most transformative. The resulting hours in practice rooms to get your feet back under you are naturally an irreplaceable piece of the puzzle, but the real treasure there is in the people that make up the atmosphere itself.

2. This show is in celebration of your digital album release. With the digital age of music altering the face of music, how do you use that as an advantage, and can you see any disadvantages in digital music?

The industry seems to be in such a transition these days its pretty difficult to pinpoint where its all headed. As a young band at this point it’s exciting enough just to be able to so directly get your thing out there on this huge scope of platforms. That accessibility I guess is both the ultimate advantage, and at times disadvantage. While that endless possibility of exposure is apparent, in some ways it has made it a bit more of a challenge to find your spot in the abundance of really great music being made these days; either way, it’s probably never been a better time for the music listener with the extreme amount of accessibility to music, often for free. Putting aside any ultimately illusory feelings of competition though, its a beautiful thing just to have the opportunity to find your spot in the madness. We’re looking forward to doing just that.

3. You've played Garcia's several times now. What makes Garcia's different than other rooms you've played?

Garcia’s is really starting to feel like our home turf. It’s an honor to have the opportunity to grow in such a historically magical place. As with anywhere though, no matter how special a place is, it’s really only as good as the people that uphold it. The people holding it down at Garcia’s walk that perfect line between maintaining the sense of professionalism and grandeur that The Capitol Theater deserves, while still holding on to the relaxed and comfortable feeling that we all want at a show.

4. Geese fly in a “V” formation across the sky to help each bird fly further than flying alone. What characteristics does each band member possess that helps Goose advance further musically?

We’re actually all probably quite a bit more different from one another than you might expect guys in a band to be, musically and in many ways personally as well. We like to look at that as working to our advantage though. That is after all what makes the idea of a band so interesting, especially one of a more open and improvisatory nature. The fact that a handful of people with entirely differently backgrounds and tendencies, and in some cases even entirely different perspectives on life, can come together and create one thing together, is a pretty incredible thing in itself. I’ve personally always found it really fascinating to observe how even the slightest alteration of one individual’s presence can have a huge impact on the overall energy of a band. Unfortunately I’m not sure I’d know how to do a quick round up of what each of us individually brings to the table in this band without getting too long-winded, but I think we’ve found a blend that we feel good about, and we’re really excited to explore what kind of potential it holds.
