Garcia’s Meets Indie: Indie Rock Artists You Don’t Want to Miss

Sep 20  / Wednesday
Indie rock lovers, rejoice! With few music venues in Westchester County, it’s sometimes hard to get your fix and explore the scene. Well at Garcia's, we're striving to bring you an eclectic mixture of the best local and nationally touring bands. We're proud to present you with a list of must-see indie rock artists on our calendar. Do yourself a favor and check them out!

Mates of States

“Now we just want the hits. Don’t bother me with filler; get me to your best songs straightaway,” and Jason Hammel, singer/drummer, couldn’t be more right. That’s exactly what they’re doing, making hits, and doing it in a big way. Their latest song, “Get Better” has over half a million views on YouTube and over 37,000 subscribers. This indie band is all about preservering and getting noticed in the digital age. They’re about to head on their U.S. and Europe tour, and they’re definitely shaking things up. With their goal of focusing on a unique, live experience, they’re stepping out from behind their instruments and going right to the fans. Be sure to catch them at Garcia’s on September 22 with Field Mouse and MORI. [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdoYK9jOltQ[/embed]

Futurebirds w/ Parker Gispert of The Whigs

Futurebirds, an indie rock band from Athens, Georgia, infuses country and rock, creating their unique, cosmic, psychedelic sound. Their newest EP, Portico II, features their new single "Olive Garden Daydreamv #47" as well as three covers from Heron, Desire, and Til Tuesday. Another album we're really digging is their 2013 album, Baba Yoga, following the band on their uncertain journey to finding a record label while on tour. With melancholy overtones and focuses on dysfunctional relationships, as well as death, the band explores the idea of holding onto something that seems to be fleeting, and isn’t that something we all do? Trying to hold on to a fleeting moment that have already passed? Don't let this show pass you by. Catch them at Garcia’s on September 27 with Parker Gispert of The Whigs. The Foxfires

Inspired by artists such as Joy Division, The 1975, and Mumford & Sons, The Foxfires combine post-punk, indie pop, and experimental folk to create what they call “seagaze,” the feeling one gets when looking out into the ocean. They describe it as the coming and going of change. The Foxfires released their first full length album Reawakening last year, which featured the song "Fleeting Foxes." Touring in the tri-state area, The Foxfires will be hitting venues like Garcia’s at The Capitol Theatre and Albany's historic Madison Theater, opening for Michale Graves, former Misfits lead vocalists. Their “seagaze” beach vibes is something you definitely don’t want to miss. Catch The Foxfires on September 30 with Strawberry Blonde and All My Friends. Lost Leaders

With their hit song, “I’m Gonna Win,” Lost Leaders had been played on radio stations across the country and named on top chart lists. The band continues to gain momentum with their rocking tunes and showmanship. Lost Leaders consists of bass player Bryon Issacs (who also plays in The Lumineers, seriously!) and guitarist Peter Cole. Their new hit song from their latest EP Heavy Lifting, “Volunteer,” proves that it’s only UP from here. Their deep bass lines, paired with beautiful harmonies and melodies, fill the room to create a vibe that connects the whole audience together. Be sure to catch Lost Leaders at Garcia’s on October 12 with Animal Reporters.
